Cooperation in Development (ALO)and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Completed work on 5 DVD video documentaries
of successful community-based natural resource management
projects in the Visayas region of the Philippines. These
documentaries, largely student produced, are being made
available to local government units, educational institutions,
NGOs and the media in an effort to spark initiative and
innovation among other communities across the Visayas for
natural resource management.
A session at the July Dissemination Workshop
was devoted to presentation of selected segments of this

2. Review & Evaluation of Community-Based Forest Mgt. Agreement & other Tenurial Instruments

Progress 2004-2005
This working group completed a research
project to review the following: a) issues encountered
in the pre-issuance, issuance, and monitoring and evaluation
of community-based tenure instruments, b) support activities
provided by implementing and assisting organizations to
improve the social and economic conditions of qualified
tenured individuals and communities, c) benefits and disincentives
encountered and the expectations of tenured migrants with
regards to their possession or possible possession of the
tenurial instruments, d) problems and issues of tenured
migrants and their plans and solutions to mitigate these
concerns, and e) support activities/services that these
tenured migrants actually received from concerned implementing
and assisting organizations
Held a Consultation/Feedback Session
with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR - Region 7) on November 17-18 to continue refinement
of findings and recommendations.
Research Output Meetings held at DENR (January 19-20, 2005) and the Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (January 21, 2005). Twenty-nine people participated in these events, including representatives from various local government units, government agencies and non-governmental organizations
