CIIFAD's programs, which include partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America,
are focused on reducing poverty and environmental degradation through promoting
global food security, sustainable rural development and conservation
of natural resources around the world. Our activities consist
of developing collaborative,
multidisciplinary, international initiatives; convening
people both
at Cornell and globally to work on issues related to food, agriculture, environment
and poverty; supporting and advising
students;
and organizing learning opportunities -including international short
courses, trainings, joint
degree programs, seminars and
related events- at Cornell and abroad. CIIFAD also facilitates
and participates in thematic
working groups at Cornell as well as transnational communities
of practice, electronic discussion
groups and international meetings.
CIIFAD facilitates and participates in numerous workshops, conferences and
international meetings to advance knowledge generation and sharing related
to the environmental, poverty, and related development issues. In addition
to facilitating knowledge generation and sharing at Cornell through its multidisciplinary,
thematic working groups, CIIFAD plays
an important role in convening geographically diverse groups and individuals
in on-line communities of practice.
CIIFAD faculty have advised,
taught and learned from hundreds of students who return
to their countries and put their education directly to use in research, extension
and policy. In addition to education at Cornell, over 200 graduate students
have received support for their international studies or field research in
connection with CIIFAD's programs throughout the world. Recently, CIIFAD assisted
in the development of a joint
Cornell/Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia) Master’s of
Professional Studies degree program in International Agriculture and Rural
Development with a specialization in Integrated Watershed Management [more..]
CIIFAD facilitates and participates in the development and implementation
of multidisciplinary projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America that include
faculty, staff and students at Cornell as well as collaborators in various
